Epperson Putting Greens is a family owned business that spans over two generations. Bill Jr, the owner, a retired mechanical engineer, played golf with men’s clubs for over 25 years and became
a low handicap golfer. Becky coached the Hillsboro High School for three years. Bill and Becky are
both members of the Rock Creek Country Club in Portland.
Bill Epperson III played golf in the Portland area, was on the Hillsboro High School varsity golf team
for 4 years as a letterman, then worked for Portland Golf and Country Club as a foreman on their
greens crew for about 10 years.
Years ago we built a putting green in our own backyard and worked as hard on the green as we
worked on our games. Our games improved but not the green, not to mention the cost of equipment, chemicals and spent time. One year after our green was in we took a short vacation, and a neighbor was going to mow it while we were gone but got sick. On our return our green had become overgrown so we mowed it down and it went into shock and died. We learned this lesson a long time ago – a real grass putting green is too much work and we would rather spend the time improving our game than trying to maintain the green.
Bill III owns a synthetic putting green in his backyard that rivals the finest greens at any country club. He can entertain friends and neighbors even use it for his children to play on, and it’s a lot of fun without the work.
Bill Jr and Becky and now live in an upstairs condo with no backyard.. They have transformed the deck into a beautiful putting green that gives hours of great enjoyment practicing without ever leaving home, and no maintenance is needed..
